All You Need To Know – Dubai & Abu Dhabi

Language: Arabic is the official language in the UAE, but English is widely spoken across the country in hotels, restaurants, shops, and most tourist spots. You’ll have no trouble getting around or asking for directions.

Currency: The currency is the UAE dirham (AED, United Arab Emirates Dirham). It’s commonly referred to as the Dirham with smaller units called Fils. Although credit and debit cards are widely accepted in the UAE, I recommend always carrying a bit of cash.

Getting Around: Public transport includes buses and metros (Dubai), and taxis, but most travellers get around via ride-hailing apps like Uber or Careem, or rental cars. In Dubai, the metro is super convenient for sightseeing, while Abu Dhabi is easier to explore by car or taxi.

Rules & Culture: Dubai and Abu Dhabi are safe and welcoming, but they’re still part of a Muslim country, so modest clothing is appreciated in public spaces and religious sites. Public displays of affection should be kept low-key; alcohol is only allowed in licensed venues; and always respect local customs, such as no swearing or offensive behaviour. Learning a bit about etiquette before you go goes a long way and will help you enjoy the cities to the fullest. Check out GOV.UK to learn more.

DUBAI

Welcome to Dubai, the hot, trendy destination everyone wants to be at! This Middle Eastern hotspot is all about big dreams and even bigger landmarks. With its world-famous skyline from the record-breaking Burj Khalifa to the luxurious sail-shaped Burj Al Arab, Dubai redefines what it means to mix modernity, innovation, and pure style.

Known for its love of luxury, Dubai is as bold as it is beautiful. Shopping is practically a sport here, with The Dubai Mall and designer boutiques everywhere you turn. You’ll spot glamour at every corner, from Atlantis The Palm to The World islands. It’s the kind of place where ‘being extra’ feels totally normal.

But beyond the sparkle, Dubai’s got soul. Step outside the city buzz for desert safaris, camel rides, and golden dunes that feel like another world. With its diverse food scene, buzzing cultural festivals, and some of the best tours you’ll ever go on, Dubai isn’t just glitz and glam; it’s wow moments all in one.

Downtown Dubai. If you want to be right in the middle of all the action, Downtown Dubai is the place. Iconic sights like the Burj Khalifa, Dubai Mall, and the Dubai Fountain’ll surround you. It’s perfect for first-time visitors who want luxury, convenience, and that rich-vibe energy.

🩵 Recommends: The Taj Dubai is a 5-star, world-class, luxurious Indian-themed hotel. It includes an outdoor pool, gym, wellness centre, and a free shuttle bus to the Dubai Mall, which is within a short distance.

Dubai Marina. Trendy, vibrant, and filled with stunning waterfront views, the Dubai Marina is a dream for anyone who loves a buzzing atmosphere. Think chic restaurants, rooftop lounges, and beach clubs just a stroll away. It’s perfect for travellers who want a mix of fun, sun, and city vibes.

🩵 Recommends: Hilton Dubai Al Habtoor is a 5-star hotel with an all-year-round outdoor pool and spa centre. It’s only a short distance from the Dubai Fountain, and the hotel offers a complimentary shuttle to beaches and the Dubai Mall.

Palm Jumeirah. The famous palm-shaped island is all about luxury and relaxation. If you’re after 5-star resorts, infinity pools, and that exclusive beach life, this is your spot. It’s quieter than Downtown or the Marina, ideal for couples or anyone ready to unwind in serious style. The man-made Palm Jumeirah is another favourite place you’ll see all over Instagram.

🩵 Recommends: Dukes The Palm, a royal hideaway, is a stunning hotel with epic views. Dubai’s amusement park is a 30-minute drive away, and the International Airport is within reach.

Deira. For a more authentic side of Dubai, Deira offers old-school charm mixed with modern comfort. You’ll find traditional souks, spice markets, and some great-value hotels. It’s a little less glitzy but full of character, which is a great choice for culture lovers who want to see the real Dubai.

🩵 Recommends: Novotel Deira Creekside is a 4-star hotel gem within 3 minutes of the metro station. It’s a great, more affordable place to explore, while central to the action.
