Language & Currency

Language: Arabic is the official language in the UAE, but don’t fret if you’re not fluent. Thanks to the diverse community, English is widely spoken and understood. It’s the go-to language for business, tourism, and even schools.

Currency: The currency is the UAE Dirham, or AED (United Arab Emirates Dirham). It’s commonly referred to as Dirham with smaller units called Fils. Although credit and debit cards are widely accepted in UAE, I recommend always carrying a bit of cash.

DUBAI

Dubai, a hot spot in the Middle East, showcases a mix of ambition and modernity. Among its iconic skyline, dominated by the Burj Khalifa, the world’s tallest tower, and the sail-shaped Burj Al Arab hotel, lies a city that continuously redefines luxury and innovation.

Dubai is often known for its extravagant lifestyle. It has a flashy and prestigious vibe, and shopping malls like The Dubai Mall are a daily hobby. Grand-scale luxury can be witnessed everywhere in Dubai, especially with iconic places like Atlantis The Palm and The World.

Beyond this spectacular city, it’s not all gold and oil. Visitors can enjoy a lifestyle away from the high life. Think desert safaris, dune bashing, and camel rides in the Arabian desert. As Dubai is a multicultural hub, expect a diverse dining scene, cultural festivals, and many entertainment options. Some of their tours are absolutely amazing, so try not to just get lost in the glitz and glam.

Palm Jumeirah. The man-made Palm Jumeirah is another favourite place for visitors to stay. This famous location, which you often see on Instagram, is home to luxurious resorts and hotels. You’ll have access to exclusive beachfront experiences, perfect for those seeking an upscale environment and a relaxed stay. This location is trendy among influencers and celebs, so keep your eyes peeled as you might just bump into someone well-known.

Recommends: Dukes The Palm, a royal hideaway, is a stunning hotel with epic views. Dubai’s amusement park is a 30-minute drive away, and the International Airport is within reach.

Dubai Atlantis Hotel The Palm Jumeirah Palm, so dreamy, ey?

Deira. For a more budget-friendly option, Deira offers a range of slightly more affordable options options. It is known for its traditional markets, like the Gold Souk and Spice Souks, and is a great location for those looking for better rates while still near amenities and attractions.

Recommends: Novotel Deira Creekside is a 4-star hotel gem within 3 minutes of the metro station. It’s a great, more affordable place to explore while central to the action.

Old Dubai. If you prefer to avoid the overly luxurious atmosphere, consider staying in Old Dubai (Bur Dubai and Deira), a historic neighbourhood that blends traditional and modern accommodation options. Here, you’ll easily access cultural attractions, souks, and the Dubai Creek.

Recommends: Suha Mina Rashid Hotel Apartments is an excellent self-catering place for those who want to be more in control of their budgets. Each apartment has a kitchen and washing machine. The hotel also has a gym and a swimming pool and serves a delicious a la carte breakfast.
