Are you working full-time and still can’t quite save enough to put aside for travel? I may have a solution to help you save additional money for your next trip. Yes, there are many online articles on how to make money online, but here’s a simple, free, and great way to make a bit extra money that works – selling on Vinted. I’ve broken it down step by step for you to follow.
*This is not a sponsored post; it’s a genuine recommendation for making additional money because I want to see you win, too!
Money-Making App
I began warming up by posting a few items in 2022, and then, as I uploaded more regularly, I made roughly £1245 from an app called Vinted. This was achieved over an on-off period of eight months, working out to an average of £155.63 a month. The earning potential fluctuated depending on whether I uploaded items or how active I was on the site.
In the first few months, I uploaded three or four items a month, and then I did a big clean-up and got all my things together. Afterwards, I started uploading more frequently, resulting in more sales; I recommend this as a great way to make money online. As you can see below from the earnings and insights, my earnings a few months ago were £2637.66. It’s currently closer to £3000 now!

So, what is Vinted? Vinted is an app for selling and buying various items, including clothes, footwear, toys, electricals, homeware, etc. I’ve sold hangers, clothes, sunglasses, clocks, wall art, jewellery, lingerie, hair products, swimwear, sports stuff, bags, make-up, sushi-maker, and many other items. They have recently added an electrics section.
The greatest thing about Vinted is that it’s super easy to use, and you pay zero fees! That’s right—you can make money online and keep it—NO FEES!
Additionally, you can sell anything for as little as £1; every little adds up. My items typically range from £4 upwards, with my biggest sale being £90 in one transaction, but the potential is unlimited. Because of this great potential, it is my favourite way to make back some dollars.
So download the Vinted app from your app store or Google search, create an account, and begin making money online!
How To Begin Making Money Online
So, I started by going through all my items at home, and when I say all, I mean ALL. I spent a whole day making categories of things I needed, items I wanted and items I weren’t sure about. Any other items were potentially awaiting inspection in one separate pile to sell, and yes, those ‘just in case’ clothing items belong in that pile, too!
Be cutthroat on your decisions. We own waaaay too many things already; trust me, you won’t miss those pants that have been sitting in your cupboard for the last 18 months. Remember, you can sell both new and used items.
Storage boxes and bags to keep my clothes and other items
At the end of this lengthy but necessary process, you’ll see how many items have taken up space in your home. Now, it is time to inspect your pile of potentials. Ask yourself the following quick questions about each item:
If you answered yes to both questions, put the item in a yes pile, and anything that doesn’t hit the yes mark should be discarded. Now, with the items you have classed as sellable, let me give you tips and tricks on giving them the best chance to make these items make you money online.
Preparing To Sell
If the item is clothes, search your photo album to see if you have any great pictures of you wearing the clothes. Ensure the picture is clear and shows precisely the clothes item you are selling. Photographs must be your own; don’t screenshot items from a website you purchased the thing on; Vinted will likely take it down.
If I don’t have pictures of the clothes on myself, I put the item on and take quick pictures using my ring light. Your face does not need to be in the photo. Alternatively, you can place the clothes on a clean object, such as a white table, to take pictures, as white usually gives a good backdrop.
Ring light to help take great pictures of my clothes and my table backdrop
The most important part of this process is ensuring the quality of your pictures benefits your items for selling. Good pictures give your items a better chance of selling. Remember, pictures speak a thousand words. Taking a great photo is helped by good lighting, hence the ring light, a clean background, and the item being at the centre of your main image.
I use 3-6 pictures of different angles and focuses for each item. I also use a subtle highlight and saturation boost to enhance the picture – the image should still accurately reflect your item. These tips will help catch your buyer’s eye; it must look attractive.
Now, do this for every item. I started with 300+ items, so I couldn’t do this all in one day. I ordered some storage boxes and kept the items in these boxes. Then, repeatedly, once a week, I would take pictures of 15 items and upload them over the week. Consistency is key to making money online.
Description For Items
Select the sell button on your app once those pictures are ready to upload. Upload the photos for that single item and write a title. Keep it simple, e.g., ‘Selling River Island black shoulder bag’ or ‘New plain white Shein top’.
You’ll then have a chance to write a description. I usually keep it relatively short and sweet, e.g.,’ a gorgeous River Island black shoulder bag with a detailed patterned strap. ‘Used a few times, still in excellent condition.’ I would also include the retail price at which I purchased it, depending on the brand and price. For example, if the River Island bag was £45 and I was selling it for £25, I would put ‘RRP £45, save £20!’.
Pricing Points
Some examples of clothes and items on my Vinted page
If you are wondering how to pick the right price to sell your items for, don’t overthink it. I usually do it by selling the item for 60% of what it costs me. For example, my handbag, which I purchased for £20, was still in excellent condition. I posted the pricing at 60% of what I bought – £12.
Haggling is expected, so this price gives you room to compromise and, if needed, lower the asking price as and when. Remember, the buyer also pays for shipping, and there are no fees, so that final price is all yours.
You may also see others selling similar clothes for lower prices; however, do not lower yours. People will still likely choose to buy from you if your page is more professional, trustworthy, and has great reviews—all of which will come within time.
Some items may sell without being haggled, while others may be a straightforward negotiation. If someone offered £9 for that £20 bag item after it had been up for a few months, I’d probably be inclined to accept; it’s really not bad for an item you’ve already used and no longer want or need.
Please don’t be shy about declining offers or negotiating prices; it is your item to sell.

Tactics To Make Money Faster On Vinted
There are different ways to try and get your clothes to sell quicker; here are the best ways to help boost your chances.
Bundles
Bundles are a great way to encourage multiple items to sell. If someone likes numerous things on your page, having this bundle discount might incentivize them to purchase your items. I offer a 10 % discount for buying two items, 15 % for purchasing three, and 25% for purchasing five items. I have found this tactic helpful numerous times; you can see the bundle discount section in the app on your profile.

Slide Into The DMs
If you see someone has favourited an item of yours, why not message them and see if you can assist them in purchasing it? Alternatively, you can send a price offer straight to them by selecting “make an offer” in the message. This tactic can be beneficial, and there is no shame in asking. Remember the saying, “If you don’t ask, you don’t get it,” so go for it with the nothing-to-lose mindset.
Price Drop
If your items have been online for a while and the sales are slow, go through them all and knock 50p-£1 off. When you do a price drop, it notifies all those who have your item favourites, so this is a great free way to drive engagement with potential buyers. Leave some days between trying this tactic again, as you don’t want to overdo it.
Promote Your Page/Items
Different options to promote your items
On the top of your page, you’ll see three options to promote your items, ‘spotlight your wardrobe’, ‘bump an item’ or ‘showcase an item’. Like an ad, you can pay to promote your items to potential buyers across the app. I’ve used these services a few times and found them to have relatively good results in gaining followers, more favourites, and more purchases.
You can experiment with those ways to help your items sell.
Posting & Packaging
Once a buyer purchases your item, you can download the shipping label from the app or your emails; QR codes are also available, usually with the In-Post delivery service, so you won’t need to print.
Then, package your item into a parcel bag; if you have a shipping label, stick this onto the outside of the parcel. Vinted allows up to five days to send your package; however, it’s good practice to ship within a few days, as great reviews about fast shipping will help when others are considering purchasing.

Receiving Your Money
Once your package is sent, tracking info will be available. When your buyer receives their item and leaves feedback, the monies will be instantly visible for you to withdraw. If the buyer doesn’t leave feedback, you’ll receive automatic 5-star feedback, and your monies will be available after two days of tracking info confirming delivery. The funds usually arrive within 24 hours; however, there might be slight delays on the weekends.
Aim for great reviews; the more positive reviews you receive, the more chances you’ll have at selling. People want to buy from someone who is trusted and can deliver on their side of the bargain. Writing a feedback review is also good etiquette; a few words will suffice, e.g. ‘Great buyer, enjoy the item!’.
Great reviews and reputation increase your chances of more sales.
Additional Information
If you are away for more than five days, put your profile on holiday mode to avoid complications. You only have a certain number of days to send a parcel, and your wardrobe will be temporarily offline until you turn holiday mode off.
