When’s The Best Time To Visit Africa?

Alright, picture this: the sun shines, birds sing, and you sip on a refreshing glass of freshly squeezed mango juice. The views are epic, the locals are friendly, and you’re in paradise. That, my friend, is what visiting Africa feels like whenever you go!

So, when’s the best time to visit? From June to October, during the dry season, also known as the high season. The sparse vegetation makes it the prime time for a classic open-vehicle safari. During this season, you’ll easily spot wildlife gathering around water sources, making for some incredible sightings.

If you’re itching to witness one of nature’s greatest shows, the annual migration in East Africa is a must-see. Imagine millions of wildebeest and zebras thundering across the Serengeti plains, chased by hungry predators in a dramatic survival spectacle.

With sunshine all year round, Africa is a fantastic destination anytime. Visiting outside the high season means lower flight and hotel prices, giving you a sense of a real bargain. Ultimately, the best time to visit depends on what adventures you have in mind!

Best Countries To Visit In Africa

I know that 54 countries is an overwhelmingly big list to choose from! The best countries to visit in Africa depend on your plan, desired vibe, and what you want to see. Also, if you’re travelling solo, I’d recommend visiting different countries with friends. Based on my experiences and research, I’ve compiled a few perfect destinations for solo travellers or group trips.

Solo Travel

Morocco is a great destination for solo travellers, oozing friendliness and adventure. Many travellers have explored Morocco alone, which indicates that people feel safe travelling solo here. You’ll also make plenty of friends along the way. You can do some amazing tours, such as the Atlas Mountain Tour and Cooking Classes, which I’ve done both of these and highly recommend. It’s perfect for solo travel as there are opportunities to make friends.

On the other hand, Cape Verde is another top choice for solo travel. The locals are super friendly, always smiling and dancing, and it is perfect for relaxing. Plus, with its perfect clean sandy beaches, you can soak up the rays from your beachfront resort, like Hilton Cape Verde, whilst enjoying the atmosphere of this beautiful up-and-coming destination. You can do guided tours from your hotel to see the best of Cape Verde.

Mauritius, known for its picture-perfect beaches and crystal-clear waters, is a tropical paradise renowned for its coral reefs and delicious cuisine influenced by Indian, Creole, and French flavours.

Alternatively, Tanzania, especially Zanzibar, is a haven for a place in the sun with friends. It offers the perfect blend of relaxation and adventure. From the bustling spice markets to sipping delicious cocktails at the fresh seafood beachside restaurants, Zanzibar promises a getaway filled with laughter, adventure, and lifelong memories with your friends.

Common Myths Vs Truths

Through years of negative one-sided stories and the sheer lack of diversity in media coverage across the African continent, many have grown up believing it’s a poor continent with nothing to offer. Fortunately, over the past decade, bloggers and travellers have shed a better light on Africa and its true beauty. So, let’s clear up some common myths:

1

Myth

It’s a resource-poor

continent with little

to offer regarding

natural wealth.

2

Myth

It’s an isolated land

characterized

by poverty and

environmental

degradation.

3

Myth

African food is like

‘bushmeat’ and ‘jungle food’

and lacks

sophistication.

Vs The Truth:

  • Africa is a treasure trove of natural resources, bursting with minerals, oils, gas, and lush agricultural land. For instance, Nigeria, Angola, and Libya are big names for oil, while countries like Mozambique and Tanzania are making waves in the gas industry. However, managing these riches comes with its own set of hurdles. Specifically, challenges like corruption, environmental damage, and social inequality pose significant obstacles. So, it is not resource-poor at all.
  • Africa boasts landscapes as diverse as its cultures. Picture endless savannas, vast deserts, lush rainforests, and majestic mountains all in one place. It’s home to some of the world’s most iconic wildlife and breathtaking natural wonders. Imagine feeling the power of Victoria Falls or exploring the serene Okavango Delta—Africa truly is a continent like no other! So, it is not just characterized by poverty and environmental degradation!
  • Food culture is a vibrant and exciting mix of flavours and traditions, each dish telling its own delicious story. African cuisine has must-try delights, from the rich and savoury Moroccan Tajine to the spicy and beloved Jollof Rice. These dishes, bursting with local ingredients, are definitely worth exploring! Far from ‘jungle food’ and lack of sophistication, more like stunning and delicious!

That’s A Wrap!

So, whether you’re chasing lions in an open-rooftop vehicle on a safari or off on a solo travel trip dipping your toes into crystal-clear waters at a golden sandy beach, Africa has the experiences to last a lifetime for everyone.
